Once the school garden location is established and 1stSaturdays are taking place monthly, the schools farmers market should go into consideration. The school might decide to host its own farmers market at the school site or start or join another farmers market in a more visible area. Like, school gardens, farmers markets are also low-cost start-ups. A farmers market could actually start with just a couple of pop-up canopies, a couple of tables and grow organically through a concentrated outreach effort.
The farmer market could sell produce grown from the schools garden as long as the county has given the school a producers certificate. Which means someone from the county has visited the school and has inspected the garden to view the items the school claims it grows. The laws/ rules differ county to county- state to state. Starters are great items to sell at farmers markets. These small plants can sell for $5.00 up a plant.
