While many are consuming whats out there, tech Start-ups continue to push forward | madelocally.org

Nowadays there seems to be an APP for everything. The phone is now sooo smart its best features are probably best explained from your next door 8th grader.

While many of us would rather go by memory to visit the Coit Tower and use that same memory to jump on the Golden Gate bridge to visit Sausalito, start-ups are counting on customers who want to travel efficiently from point A to point B.

Saving consumers time and energy for a fair price is what many entrepreneurs are seeking to accomplish on their journey. If successful, their business will prosper. But what happens to the companies they were able to beat?

The answer to this question varies depending on the industry and depending on the company.

Years ago, I recall working on a deal to present to a Kodak representative. For those of you under 25 years of age, Kodak was a huge company that made a killing selling film for cameras. What is film you may ask? Film was a cartridge that would slide in your camera and enable you to take a certain number of pictures. So, for example, suppose you were planning to take a vacation trip to Jamaica and you want to come back with 300 pictures showing everybody how great of a time you had.  Kodak sold cartridge’s in 12, 24,36 pictures per cartridge (I believe??)  So, to take 300 pictures, you would have to buy…lol..you figure it out. We had to 25 years ago!

You want more info to make the best Kodak photo deal. O.K. So, of course the 12 pictures was less than the 24 and the 24 was less than 36. From my memory, which has overcome some great obstacles to say the least, a 12 pack would could cost $2.50, a 24 pack 3.75  and a 36 pack $4.50. If you wanted to return to your hometown from Jamaica with 300 pictures, what is the best purchase?

But before you give your answer there’s more. And yes, I am still talking to those under 25. After you paid for the film to take pictures, you had to remove the Kodak film cartridge and take it to local camera store or (longs, thrifty) to have the film developed! Yep! The same pictures you take on your camera and look at immediately on your phone, they had us double dipping for pictures not that long ago.

Now if you wanted to see your picture immediately…there was a company called Panasonic!

To be continued!!
